Why does that not help Cornell? That would favor them considering how prone Cousins is to getting into foul trouble.

I have a feeling they will rate a D- when it comes to handling tight games in front of rabid crowds on national tv. Maybe Cornell is just as bad, but Cal did have a nine-point lead with two minutes remaining (I think that's right) at one time.

Just a feeling that Kentucky's backup center is a lot better than Cornell's backup center.

I don't think any of Cornell's baseline bench guys averages more than two points a game.

Michigan State has one of hte stingiest defenses in college basketball. You ever watch them play in a Big Ten game? They certainly don't score.

Any score predictions for tonight's most anticipated game ever by SportsJournalists.com?

I say Kentucky wins it by 6, keeping it just close enough for the fans of the underdogs to get crushed at the end when John Wall dunks from the three point line and picks up a foul call for a four point play.

If it's that close, I think Cornell figures out a way to win it or Kenticky figures out a way to lose it.

Either Kentucky by 15 or 20 or Cornell by four or less.

    Just for fun...

What if Kentucky loses? Is the fallout worse than Chris Mills' envelope?

Will they just reload next year?

Slightly worse than when they will have to vacate their wins when they find out coach Cal cheated again.

Cornell's backup center used to start for Kentucky. Granted, it was during that down period around Billie Gillespie, but Mark Coury is at least a body to throw in there and he has contributed all year. I think the main big-man match-up, provided Jeff Foote for Cornell doesn't get into foul trouble, could be the problem. Foote held his own against Cole Aldridge when Cornell played Kansas. Otherwise, he has had a size advantage against most centers he faces off against, and they don't just plant him under the basket. They let him take the high post and use him to turn and face or pass. It makes it hard for oafish centers to defend. The problem is that DeMarcus Cousins is the best player he is going to face, and even though Foote has height on him, Cousins has weight and muscle and a lot more skill with the ball. If Foote can hang in there with Cousins, it will give Cornell a chance. If Cousins eats him up, it will make it way too difficult for them and they may end up trying to play from behind and there is no way Cornell can come from behind against a team that much more talented than them.

As for the bench, Cornell has gone fairly deep for a team like this. They rely a lot on Foote, Dale and Wittman, but they do give those guys spells and they get quite a bit of scoring off their bench -- Geoff Reeve and Max Groebe both score and can hit the three, and even though they don't ask them to score, Coury and Adam Wire give a lot of minutes down low, and can hold their own defensively and do kick outs to the guys who can hit threes.

Kentucky has a big talent advantage, but if Cornell can keep it close for the first 10 to 15 minutes, Kentucky's freshman could get rattled. Even if that happens and the game is close, I don't see Cornell having anyone who can match up with John Wall, who is going to be an NBA lottery pick, even if Louis Dale has looked very polished this year.

Cornell's run should end. But I am hoping not.

I like the notion that the Final Four appearances by Calipari, Michigan and others are truly vacated. Here's a mention on the NCAA's web site of Calipari's 1996 appearance with UMass. Oops. http://www.ncaa.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/033008aaa.html

    From earlier in this thread:

I've been trying to talk myself into picking Cornell to win since Sunday. Still haven't quite managed to do it.

Plenty of green seats available at the Syracuse-Butler game.
