    Right.
This isn't Siena or Murray State or Western Kentucky or Wichita State or even Northern Iowa/St. Mary's to a degree.
Four straight tourney appearances say so.

And they're a 5 seed. It's not unprecedented. Arizona won a national title as a 5 seed. George Mason? Different animal.

    Motion capture from SLC.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim (left) chokes during the last four minutes of a NCAA regional semifinal against Butler on Thursday. Though it appears he is culpable, Darth Vader (center) is merely letting the force take its own course, waiting in zen-like fashion for the inevitable. Grand Moff Tarkin (right) is briefly distracted while allegedly planning the destruction of Alderaan.

Nice choke job Syracuse. Shot selection was a concept that apparently is too Byzantine for the Orange to understand.

I can't stand Butler, but at least Boeheim reverted to NCAA form.

I suppose all the money in the world doesn't matter if you don't execute.

Just pointing out the reason that these teams are called mid-majors has nothing to do with how good of a basketball team they are, but of the circumstances surrounding their programs.

That would be true if Butler had any kind of broad fanbase in Indy, which they don't. Bandwagoners will jump on, of course, but Butler hoops doesn't make the top 5 as far as Indy fan interest and breaks the top 10 with difficulty.

Gene Hackman would toss the jump ball to start the national semifinal if they get there.

That's all true, can't disagree there.
But I think those budgets play much more of a factor in football.
If you have a solid program and you win in the tournament – you can hang.
Michigan's athletic budget is through the roof – but basketball (and I guess football now) is a debacle most years.

You're right, but lets use Syracuse as an example. Rushed a three pointer at the end. Missed a layup, missed a free throw. Cost them.
