At some point in this tournament, Kentucky will have to make free throws. And this group of 'Cats isn't much better at that than Cal's last Final Four team was. We all know how important that turned out to be.

If they play down to an opponent and let them hang around, I agree. If they push the whole game, none of them will be close enough for that to be a difference. I could see the WVU game being close since the 'Neers play everyone close, but they aren't much better at foul shooting.

Also, it's a fallacy that a team has to play a close game at some point during the tourney. Last year's North Carolina team didn't have any tight end of game situations (the lone somewhat exception being the second round game, but even that became an easy win the last five minutes).

WVU shoots about 70% FT for the season and 13-of-17 (76.5) tonight - not sure where you're coming from on that point.

Outside of Butler, I wouldn't trust any of the other guys on the team in a late game situation. Jones is a sub-70% FT shooter and while Ebanks is better in general, the way his midrange jumper can tend to abandon him at times, I wouldn't feel comfortable with him at the line.

And Smith and Mazzula are under 60%. Those are the five guys for them most likely to have the ball in a tight game down the stretch. Now, if they're ahead and can put in Mitchell and Pepper, that's a different situation.

Ebanks shoots the T's most of the time, so I'd say he's trusted. Overall, I would not term foul shooting a liability. Most of the other shooting, yes.

I'll give you that. I think the Pitt game is sticking in my mind, where they should have won in regulation but it was sent to the first of 3 OTs because they couldn't hit free throws to seal the game.
