That's the kind of excitement/backdrop/call it what you will that you most of the time can only find in college athletics.
I love this sort of stuff, like Kentucky topping Tennessee on the gridiron for the first time in some 25 seasons.

Pro athletics is far too often just too staid.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery was ejected from the game and escorted from the court by campus police at tonight's Iowa-Northern Iowa basketball game. Hawkeyes committed four technical in a 5-minute span, including three in 20 seconds (three of the four were on McCaffery/Team). They were down two points when all that went down. It sparked a 20-2 run for Northern Iowa. But, damn, it sure was fun to watch.

Nice little brawl for X and Cincy.

My cousin is a 5-10 skinny as-a-wick first-year backup point guard at McGill University in Montreal. They played an exhibition game at Cincinnati during a US Tour this season.

If you've ever watched an international game, you know how players line up beforehand to exchange small gifts with the other team. My cousin lined up against Gates, who threw the punch that ignited this brawl. My uncle was at the game and was howling, saying Gates looked like he was wondering why he had to shake hands with the ball boy.

I just sent them the link to the fight, imagining what Gates could have done to my cousin.

A couple players should be arrested for what happened in that brawl.

The NBA's rule works; Leave the bench, get suspended.

Play-by-play guy actually said "It's shame this had to end like this," but apparently they were trash talking from the national anthem. I want to ask why all those starters were still on the floor with nine seconds left and X up by 23, but everybody got involved, so I guess it didn't really matter.

I'm sure both sides will lose players for extended periods. And maybe Cincy's rep makes this no big surprise - but I don't know what Xavier players were thinking, losing their heads like that, figure some of the players will now miss some league games. Pretty bad scene all the way around.

He talks a nice game, but blaming the refs for this, to me, seems a little hollow.

Where the hell was the Xavier SID during that press conference? Holy shit, was that bad. Gangsters?
