When Ted Valentine jerks off, he does it to pictures of himself, while wearing headphones playing nothing but the sound of a whistle.

Paparo was Froggy - because he sounded like he was croaking.

Someone did a story on him once that debunked a bit of a myth about his background with the Cubs. A couple days later, I get on a plane and he's there with a Cubs hat on. I laughed all the way back to my seat.

Wertz had an ego, as did Paparo. I got the idea they were otherwise generally regarded as good officials. Hess, as I noted on the other thread, is all about Hess.

The 3 last night were whistle-whore Valentine, Tom Eads, Mike Kitts.

Eads is a very good official.

    Don't know much about Kitts.

The CBS Sports article I saw had it as a 36-4 run.

Still pretty crazy. 80 points is usually two games' worth of offense for Nebraska. Of course, being Nebraska, it will finish the season with three more road losses and a 52-51 home triumph over Iowa.

I see my boy Bo Spencer still likes to shoot. Had a heck of a game there.

I don't think either coach in that game is back next season.

If Doc Sadler returns next year, I will be shocked. And, if I'm Fran McCaffrey, I'm circling the trip to Lincoln as payback. I still can't believe the Huskers came back and won in Iowa City. Fucking Nebraska?

UNM is always a good team and SDSU has been very good also.

I remember covering Air Force once, never been more bored in my life. UNLV wanted to play a really fast-paced game, Air Force wasn't having that. The Falcons offense was spread everyone on the perimeter, pass the ball for 32 seconds, jack up a three or a long-range two and hope it goes in.

They won scoring somewhere in the low 50's. Good strategy but really boring.

Wertz was an excellent official ... maybe not at Joe Forte level, but certainly no slouch. The Cameron Crazies chanted "Oh no, not Lenny," but they loved him. And, unlike Hess, he did not make situations about himself and was not especially thin-skinned.

Also, little-known fact about Lenny: he served for a brief time as the commissioner of the LPGA.

The thought that Texas may not make it into the NCAA Tournament makes me almost giddy.

When he's not on the court, Karl Hess is a family and marriage counselor. Wow.

And yet, somehow the ACC gives this guy plum assignments, like ACC Championship games.

'Cept the way Baylor is imploding, that win against a ranked team may finally come, tonight.
