Is Maryland supposed to be any good this year? I have no idea what to make of Alabama blowing them out so easily.

FWIW, a point to consider: Long Beach has a chance to be this season's Cornell (of a couple years ago). They have a ton of seniors who have been through the wars (in the past three years, they've beaten Iowa, UCLA and Temple and have played Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina -- a five-point road loss last season -- Texas, Syracuse, etc.), and they have a number of legit players. That Casper Ware guy is very good. Dan Monson, one of the founding fathers of the Gonzaga phenomenon, is the coach.

The trick for them will be getting into the tournament. Last season, they dominated the Big West regular season but lost to nemesis Santa Barbara in the BW tournament. Of course, with a win at Pitt and a tough schedule (San Diego State, Louisville, Kansas, North Carolina all on the road and Xavier to open the Diamond Head Classic) they might have a shot at an at-large.

BTW, the Big West has three teams that could be NCAA upset special types. Santa Barbara has a bunch of seniors, including Orlando Johnson, and has been to the past two tournaments. And Fullerton is led by two transfers from Cal who apparently can play a little.

From Galen Center: Cal Poly SLO 42, USC 36. That's a final, not halftime.

College of Charleston trips another ACC team. Granted, it was just Clemson.

It's alright for you and slave to embrace fanboi'ism but damn if I'm not attacked for doing it around here every once in a while.
I'll call bullshit on all that...plus savor the MSU hardwood wins over ranked opponents at Madison Square the past few nites.

I would imagine that the bars around the Galen Center were on alert for extra security to deal with an angry, redfaced bald man.

How about those Tar Heels?!?!?! UNLV 90-80!

As a proud grad of Tumbleweed Tech, I am rather pleased tonight.

Reading between the lines, Roy's postgame comments were hiliarous.

    But, then, they always are.

What about Harvard? Is there no love for the Crimson after winning the Battle 4 Atlantis?

The AP might want to pay a little bit more attention to college basketball copy when it's written by a political reporter:

I'm pretty sure Oregon didn't win a game between Oregon State and Towson University.

Story's been up since yesterday without correction.

It's usually worse on TV and/or radio, when anchors have to pronounce the names of players/coaches.

Amazes me when they get the pronunciation of a long-time, local guy or gal's name wrong. Don't they look at their script ahead of time? Shouldn't a producer give the local Ted Baxter a heads up, if they know he doesn't follow sports?

But this article passed by an editor. You don't have to be a genius to know Oregon & Oregon State are different schools, or that any college that ends in "State" is never shortened in a way that drops "State".

Maybe it gets abbreviated to PSU, MSU, etc., but you'd never refer to Penn State, Michigan State, or NC State as Penn, Michigan, or North Carolina.

It was very jarring. Very obvious.
