Sounds about right based on the video. God damn, that makes that much worse.

Or perhaps something about adults losing their shit as a baseball is thrown their way.

Blitz and I were at the game. We were seated down the left field line in foul territory and saw the guy fall out of the stands from about 50-75 yards away. He fell behind the wall and we couldn't see anything after that, other than the safety personnel rushing down there and the other fans looking on from above.

A few innings later, we asked a security guy what happened, and he said the guy "was going to be OK," but that might have just been the party line to avoid a panic. We didn't know he had died until we got back to the hotel room and checked the Internet.

Just a crazy situation. Never seen anything like it.

According to this story the guy was ok when he left the park but a had heart attack in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

I'm guessing there's a gap between the stands and the outfield fence to prevent fans from reaching over into the field, but geez ...

Yeah, about six feet I think. Hamilton lobbed the ball up and shorted it a bit, and the guy kind of half-ran, half-lunged in front of the guy next to him and appeared to trip over that guy's legs and went over the rail.

An unbelievable tragedy from every possible angle. The man, his son, Hamilton. Dear God.

Couple of real eerie photos on the AP wire, one of a couple of cops looking down at the victim from the bleachers, another one of the paramedics working on him, shot through a screen in the wall. The link from the NBC station has a screen grab from TV. And, strangely enough, a photo of W. and the missus, who were at the game.

Falls from outfield between the scoreboard and wall.

That was horrible. Prayers for the kid and the guy's family.

Agreed, the question of "What if I had thrown it harder?" But hell, people have got to understand the risk of that when they're sitting there. Is a damn ball worth it? (And yeah, as a dad, I could see him thinking the thoughts a dad would, a souvenir for my son...). Jeez. What his son is left with now.
