no, they surely are not. this, however, is a unique circumstance in which they put the money grab AHEAD of their entire fanbase. the folks that bought tickets were the unfortunate victims of something out of everyone's control. if jeter goes oh-fer the rest of today and tomorrow, the rainout and not turning it into a straight doubleheader will have cost jeter at least four at-bats and he will then reach 3,000 on the road. no big whoop to me, but the organization seemed to really want him to do it at home, where he could be celebrated accordingly.

yes, every other club does all it can to salvage every gate they can. but with a historic occassion on tap? if any team can 'afford' to pass on the gate in deference to the face of their franchise, it's them, isn't it?

hey, yf, you know i'm not one of SportsJournalists.com's many yankee bashers. but this just sucked balls. fortunately for yankeesnation, jeter, go them off the hook with... A HOME RUN FOR NO. 3,000!!!

say what you will, bashers everywhere, but the guy's got a special quality.

That's going to be a very expensive souvenir.

Wonder what Jeter/the Yankees will offer to get the ball back.

Johnny Damon comes out of the dugout to lead his teammates in applause.

Moment like that and this is your response? Sad.

What did he have before this, two home runs all season? Both in the same game if I remember correctly. Gotta agree with schockey. Jeter is a shell of his former self, but he still finds a way to do something special in the big moment.

nice moments. devil rays cheering. crowd exploding. hug hugs hugs. all good.

and still amazing to me that kay and everyone at YES, whenever the cameras show his cheering family and friends in their private box, he mentions jeter's mom and dad but NEVER minka kelly. as if jeter will never speak to them again if minka is acknowledged.

    just funny.

    Ha ha.

I'm sure you're interested in a fight, but I'm not going to get draw into it.

Certainly a part of the Rays decision to not play the double header was to avoid Jeter getting number 3,000 against them.

And, I've hated the Rays since long before today. They're an incredibly petty organization. As a former employee of the team, I know this first hand.

Are her facial expressions as fake for this as they were on FNL?

Now that is actually funny and I'm sure it does come either from the top or out of Kay's own desire to please Jeter.

YES is incredibly self serving and Kay has no shame. No doubt about that.

I think I saw somewhere that you could have gotten 10-1 odds on a HR for number 3,000.

I wouldn't have wasted my money on that bet.

Jeter has to be incredibly relieved. He's got friends & family in town. No way would he want to take a couple of oh-fers.

Sure as hell he wouldn't want to have to answer questions about the stress he's going through and all of that.

Funny too that every fucking network has a worthless "sidelines" reporter for baseball games.

They offer nothing except pre-planned, scripted comments.

But now, when they could serve a purpose, has YES gotten their reporter to left field to find out who has the ball? Has Kay mentioned it at all?

    Nope.

Probably more orders from on high as they try to get the ball back.

I'm having a hard time deciding which one I couldn't care less about the most, Jeter's 3,000 or the Royals in Los Angeles.
