What's so different from any other Jeter at-bat announced by Kay?

This Seth Meyers tweet was quite funny.

According to YES, not only was Jeter's 3000th hit a HR, it also knocked out a man who had just stolen an old woman's purse.

Normally, he just pops wood. Today he's spontaneously coming in his pants.

For all the hyperbole by Michael Kay and YES, which is rightly being mocked, Jeter's performance today was incredible. Also makes me think about this. Going 5-for-5, with a homer, double, stolen base, a couple of RBIs and the game-winning hit ... is that the best performance in a historical moment like that since Ripken homered the night he broke Gehrig's record? Can anyone think of a better one?

jeter's first 5-hit game in more than 6 years and only third of his career. reminded this ol' man of memorial day doubleheader opener in '68 (my ol' man took me to this annual event; i was 11). 'the mick,' who was my childhood godlike figure even though he was well over-the-hill by the time i became a daily seamhead ('65, beginning of the yanks demise), went 5-for-5 with two homers. it was a last gasp of old-time mantle magic.

of course, he was way beyond being able to play both ends of the doublehead back then. he was on deck to pinch-hit when the final out was made. old-man shockey uncharacteristically agreed to stay 'til the end in hopes 'the mick' would get one more ab... i believe i still have thr 5-5 scorecard in a box somewhere.

kudos to the fan, no matter how much the yanks he received from the yanks in exchange, for giving up the ball while negotiating for little more than taking a picture with no. 2.

thank goodness randy levine didn't grab the homer. he'd still be demanding more for it.

i'm happy for mizzoo that he won't be tortured by 'jeter watch' updates any longer. i feel for anyone in pain...

Yeah good on the fan, isn't this the same organization that has completely outpriced their fans since the new stadium was built

indeed. in hindsight i suppose the guy should've held the ball hostage until the yanks agreed to lower ticket prices! but he did pretty well for himself anyway...

In 1973, O.J. needed 61 yards in the final game to beat Jim Brown's single-season mark of 1,863. He got it, then busted clear through for 200 that day to make it 2,003 for the season.

But I don't want this to indicate in any way that I think Jeter will cut off Minka's and Riggins' heads.

o.j. was way before ripken's record. he asked for any historic event SINCE ripken... and i'm workin' on it....

didn't favre have a huge game on national tv when he broke one of his zillion passing records?

OK, got it. Since Ripken. ... I would nominate Tiger at the '97 Masters. Had the world's attention Friday but didn't have a large lead; proceeded to blow the doors off the next two days for the lowest score and largest margin of victory in the event's history.
