This isn't about the closer role, though, its about strengthening the bullpen overall. The Brewers have 20 bullpen losses, most in the majors.

This is more about solidifying the set-up role than the closer role. Believe me, when you've seen Kameron Loe getting trotted out there, this is a good move. It moves guys like Takashi Saito and LaTroy Hawkins to the seventh inning.

This is the precursor to Carlos Beltran going to the Giants for a bag of peanuts. The Giants basically said last week that they'd rather take on the whole $9M in salary than give up any prospects. Sounds like they're speaking the Mets' language.

I'm convinced that's why Beltran made the all-star team over Andrew McCutchen, so Bochy and the Giants' players could bend his ear about the joys of the Bay Area for two days in Phoenix.

I'm just saying they are likely overpaying because he is a closer and looking for a good set-up guy might have been a better option.

My understanding was that Rodriguez was going to shoot down any trade to a team that wouldn't let him close, though he was willing to waive that massive option for 2012 if the new team re-negotiated his contract.

I agree that they needed the help in the bullpen. I'm just wondering if this is the best fit.

You aren't the only one I have seen advance that theory. Might even be true. Certainly would make a lot of sense for the Giants if they can get him.

It wasn't just two days in Phoenix. The Mets closed the first half in S.F., and guess who hitched a ride to the game on the chartered jet with the Giants' All-Stars?

Best fit? I see your argument. This could backfire if K-Rod or Axford doesn't respond to what the Brewers want to do.

Overpaying? Who cares? It's not my money. Once again, the Brewers prove they will strengthen their team no matter the cost. As a fan, that's all you can ask.

Bubbler, are you trying to make Wendy Selig-Prieb cry?

You mentioning Wendy Selig-Prieb is going to make me cry.

    Then he hired Boras.

Beat me to it ... what I get for closing the pages early. I'll add that before the series started, he let it be known to the Mets he only wanted to be traded to a contender.
