I never had a bad time there, either.

But try selling that roller rink to somebody who doesn't like baseball.

These are very smart guys. They can figure out a way to get what they want without opening a battlefront in the media (with ESPN as proxy). Or without shaking down a region with 11 percent unemployment and one of the worst home price indices in the country.

If Freddie Garcia starts 30 games, he could be looking at up to $3.6 million in additional performance bonuses. He's already made 16.

We're basically two-thirds through the season at this point (or will be this time next week). I don't see him getting there.

Nelson Cruz having a very nice night. Triple shy of the cycle: 3-for-3 6 RBI. Rangers lead 8-1.

Sad seeing Rich Harden being reduced from all the injuries to being a junkballer.

Unless young Blake Beavan can come through on the mound, Seattle will tie its franchise-worst losing streak tonight in Boston. The Mariners lost 14 straight games in September 1992.

Hard to believe this team was only a couple games out at the beginning of the month -- until Texas started playing well and the Mariners started, well, playing down to their talent level.

Decent pitching and no hitting can only take you so far.

And yet he just got a win in Yankee Stadium. Gotta give him credit for hanging around when other guys might have hung it up long ago.

Anybody else see that Brandon Webb is going to have to have another surgery on his arm?

    Pretty much done now.

Turns out the worst part of moving to Houston isn't the heat ... it's having to watch the Astros. Darn, they're unexciting.

Tonight's game -- especially the seventh inning, as the Mariners defense implodes -- shows why this year's Seattle team has what it takes to be record-setting losers.

And the Rockets, and the Texans ...

The Texans are not boring. You catch the end of any of their games last year?
