Quite true, and my sympathies are with the Pirates' pitching staff, but I find it dubious to be playing the "kill the ump" game when you failed on 17 straight occasions to do something to avoid it.

Is Jerry Meals a relative of yours? Because we've gone from it's too close to call to that doesn't *really* show him being tagged to it's the Pirates fault for not scoring.

The Pirates really have you worried, don't they?

Angels' Erwin Santana hasn't allowed a hit through eight vs. Indians at the Jake. LAA up 3-1.

All of the above, except the Jerry Meals' relative part.

I find "kill the umpire" indignation to be asinine. And it was NOT as obvious a call as those foaming at the mouth would lead you to believe.

And I've got NEYER! on my side! :D

Olney says Rasmus to Blue Jays a done deal:

So the Braves should be rewarded for having the same kind of ineptitude at the plate? Actually, the Braves were probably worse, since they stranded more runners.

If this is what it takes to get you excited about the Pirates instead of complaining about their lot, it is worth it! :D

The Pirates battling the Brewers is hard for me. I like the Pirates and my daughter is a Pirates fan (for reasons totally unknown to me). So if the Brewers don't do it, I hope the Pirates do.

I can't work up anything like the same acrimony I do for the Cubs or even the Cardinals.

C'mon man, you know that's not what I'm saying.

My point is that to place blame on an umpire's call after 17 innings of failure at the plate is kind of weak in my opinion. Add on the fact that it wasn't as obvious a call as it looked live, that makes it even more so.

If the Braves had lost in the same manner, I'd be saying the same about them.

Nah, I still don't care that much. If that call happened 20 years ago, I'd have been calling for the umpires head on a pike, but those days are long gone.

Of course it isn't the same as the Cardinals or Cubs. The Pirates have been a joke far too long for that.

I dare say you wouldn't be so forgiving to the umpire if it was the Brewers who lost on such call.

Ervin, even. And he got it with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Maybe not, but I wouldn't be starting Facebook campaigns about the umpire either.
