Oh, crap, I caught the game on TV from the fifth inning on and missed that. I'll have to watch it on mlb.tv tonight.

I find it amusing that Boston can only split a 4-game set in Fenway against the Royals

John Farrell on old man Rasmus. The old man was on The FAN today and said he doesn't meddle and that 95% of the stuff the St. Louis media writes about the Cardinals is made up.

That's a lousy way to miss hitting for the cycle. Everything BUT the single.

    * Also look for Cabrera's home run into the hedges in dead center field (420 feet away). (I think Florida is the only park with a deeper CF).

    * You can also look for David Purcey walking the bases loaded, which helped the Angels break it open again. Dude has about eight walks in his last three games in about 2/3 of an inning.

    * Leyland only has about four ejections this year, but all have been in the last month.

    * Angels Joel Pinero (sp?) got staked to a 7-2 lead and gave up four in the fourth before getting yanked.

A overbearing sports parent who doesn't think he meddles? Imagine that.

I'm in the minority on this, a Cardinals fan who isn't bothered by this trade. The kid (and if you have daddy fighting your battles for you at the big-league level, that's what you are) may have all the potential, upside, whatever in the world, but it obviously wasn't working in STL. Maybe a change of scenery is best for everybody. I'm the last guy who will defend LaRussa -- I think he's an egomaniac who is the definition of overmanager -- but it's his team. Work with the coaches and the veteran players, and learn how to adapt and play in the big leagues. Sorry, Colby, but Mark McGwire and Albert Pujols are better hitters than you AND your daddy. Rasmus would still be wearing red, happier, better paid, etc. if he would have shut the fuck up and just performed.

Still very easy to say when it is a team yours is competing with for the division rather than your team that got screwed.

Bottom line is the ump badly blew a call that ended a game. Sure, plenty of fans over-reacted, but that doesn't mean they don't have a right to be pissed.

Leyland got run after a pitch rode in on one of his hitters. You could hear it hit the bat and it really careened far away, not as though it hit skin. The batter didn't react as though he'd been hit and made no move to go to first. Leyland comes out to question the plate ump, but winds up getting tossed by the first base ump. Must be some history there.

Pineiro three awful starts in a row.

Finally went to see Bryce Harper tonight.

Sat in the lounge for two hours as the rain fell. Game's still on, but no sign of it stopping. And I'm home. Oh, well. It was a nice meal.

Why aren't you pissed that you didn't get more? I'm a Yankees fan who's upset that they didn't offer more, and I imagine fans of every other team feel similarly.

Bingo. Getting healthy (Placido Polanco is still on the DL, and most everyone in the lineup seems to have had at least one stint this season) will also be at least as beneficial as any trade they can make. Plus, the team has been hitting better the last few weeks. The Phillies always seem to get better later in the season, and they're already pretty damn good. This reeks of panic.
Getting Pence would be a good long-term move, though. Raul Ibanez's contract is up after this season and he's stunk for most of the last 2 years. I don't see how they bring him back in 2012. Pence would certainly help fill that hole next year and beyond.

Good job on a play by play of an ejection. ::)

the ejection occured because Leyland (or someone in the dugout) kept chirping.
