I hesitate to jinx this, but is it possible the Giants are finally done with Barry Zito's bullshit?

They list Sunday start as TBA even though they haven't had a day off that would allow them to skip anyone. Jonathan Sanchez not ready to come back yet. Double-A lefty is the writer's guess; if that guy comes up, Zito will drop to the team's #7 starter.

Most of that makes sense, though counting on Polanco getting healthy seems a bit of a stretch.

He was 20 minutes away from me Wednesday, playing a day game, and I totally blanked. Had a good excuse to get out of the office AND see Harper. Old age blows.

I do that with band/concerts all the time.

See that someone is coming to town. Forget. See the listing in the free weekly the day after the show.

In discussing Rasmus a Toronto columnist referenced Bonnie and Carl Lindros, who meddled in Eric's career from his junior days right through to the end. I can't believe a player at the major league level would heed the advice of his father ahead of his coaches.

Is his self confidence really that bad? Didn't look too comfortable in his presser - either before or after the game yesterday - and he looked out of sync at the plate. Opening-night jitters to be sure but I can't imagine a player at that level bringing his old man along with his other baggage.

This guy comes off as a dope.

I know he's young and spoiled, but he seems a little detached.

Totally. Looked yesterday like he'd never seen a microphone before.

He looked like a rube who'd never been near a truly diverse, international city before.

La Russa and Mozeliak must be laughing their asses off thinking about a guy from Phenix City, Ala., walking the streets of Toronto.

Oh yeah, one late-night stroll on a Friday or Saturday on Yonge St. and he won't be trekking too far from his hotel or the ballpark. I suspect there are more guys sleeping on Yonge than live in his hometown.

It sucks that we didn't get more, but not really pissed. The guy's been in a free-fall for months, in a pissing contest with his manager, coaches, and GM, and has high-profile daddy issues. That doesn't really make for appealing trade bait. If this is one of those trades that's a bust, so be it, but I'm not going to wring my hands over it. My armchair scouting hasn't shown me enough with Rasmus for me to think we gave up Brock for Broglio.

As a Cards fan, I agree. This has the potential to look really bad in a few yeaers, because Rasmus has a ton of potential and if he turns into a star in a few years, Cards fans will scream about such a dumb trade. But I don't think Rasmus was ever going to become a star in STL. He needed a change of scenery. If he stayed in STL for years, he'd probably have never been more than an average CF. Somewhere else, and maybe he becomes a star. I just don't think it was happening here.
