Pirates added a couple of decent sticks (better than what they had) and probably cleared up a potential Rule 5 problem down the road.

They are 4.5 back right now, but this was about as much mortgaging of the future as they needed to do, or I was comfortable with them doing.

Sounds about right. I think the Rule 5 issue was a big part of it, but so was showing the fans and the players already on the roster that they were willing to try without really giving up much.

Let's hope this GM understands how Rule 5 works.

You mean you didn't like the Carmelo Martinez trade? :)

That team is a shitshow. You don't build a franchise by letting top prospects rot on the bench/in the minors when you aren't in a playoff race (and won't be in one until the middle part of this decade or later).

If they don't think he's ready, then they shouldn't have called him up so soon.

I don't think any of the trades offered to the Yankees were worth it. But, is Cashman overselling his roster?

What are the best pitching rotations/rosters in the game right now?

Just for rotations, it's pretty clear.

    1. Halladay/Lee/Hamels/Worley, with fifth between Kendrick/Oswalt/Blanton

    1a. Lincecum/Cain/Bumgardner/Vogelsong/Zito

    This.

You have to be a pretty big Detroit homer to think what Guillen did barely crossed the line.

As bad as the Astros are, going down to AAA might be viewed as a promotion.

    Its No.1 when you go:

    Lincecum/Cain/Bumgardner/Vogelsong/Sanchez

    No. 100 when you go:

    Lincecum/Cain/Bumgardner/Vogelsong/Zito

A tad overstated, but a salient point.
