That goddamn head case is never going to ruin a Sunday morning/afternoon for me again, I am making it my own self-improvement crusade. I don't know why I expected anything else.

It's a pretty interesting situation. No way in hell do they start him again. But he's such a bad first-inning pitcher that you wouldn't dare use him as a reliever. So to keep him on the roster they're essentially going to be playing with a 24-man team for the next month. Unless they cut him -- in which case they owe him more than $50M for the unfulfilled remainder of his contract.

He's brutal to watch. Max 84/85, so essentially he's a knuckleballer out there who when he grooves the FB gets whacked like its Robinson Cano in the HR derby. The difference is that the Dickey/Wakefield knuckler is more likely to be a strike than Zito's curve right now. Zito's change is only effective if he's got great control of it (he does not) or if the curve is working.

The problem is that if they keep Zito, that means either Ramirez, Casilla or Mota goes and those guys are valuable keepers. Affeldt and Lopez are not going anywhere, nor is Romo or Wilson.

Beltran will start raking and all will be right in the world, especially with Cain/Lincecum/Vogelsong lined up this week.

If you are on the road in a tie game, I would save the closer for an inning where you score in the top of the inning.

I think he is overselling his roster. Now I can understand not paying up on Ubaldo and Kuroda wouldn't waive his no-trade so his SP options were limited. That said, they certainly could have added some more depth for the pen (in particular a lefty). Guys like that could have been had without sacrificing any of his untouchable prospects.

Carlos Lee is left to wonder why the hell he wasn't traded. They could've gotten someone for him right? Surely some cash and a bag of chips?

I see Neyer's point. Doesn't change the fact that the umpire made a terrible call that handed one of those games to the Braves.

Just wondering ... does the thread explode all over the rest of the threads when it happens to reach 137 pages, or something like that?

I think Carlos Lee has a no-trade. Maybe nobody wanted him.
