That or maybe he was too expensive, which is probably why they couldn't find a taker for Wandy Rodriguez.

Lee's contract pays him $18.5 MM this year and next. Not even the Yankees are dumb enough to take him.

Rodriguez is still owed almost $40 million over the next three-plus years. That's a lot of cheese for a guy with a career ERA of 4.11.

To be fair, Rodriguez's combined ERA over the last three seasons was 3.36 and it is 3.47 so far this season.

Sorry, it explodes all over the other threads when it reaches 332 pages. :)

Kind of makes this thread look like an undernourished stepchild, doesn't it?

One source last week called him "a poor man's Ted Lilly." Take that FWIW.

That source needs a clue. Lilly has a higher career ERA, a higher ERA this season and has had a higher ERA each of the last three seasons than Rodriguez.

You make it sound like he sucks. He was rewarded with a big contract after last season and is better than league average. He posted a career best WHIP in 2010. He's been a serviceable pitcher for years. What has Wandy Rodriguez really done?

You need to get beyond ERA in these discussions, or at least use league-adjusted ERA. There are other ways of evaluating pitchers.

I didn't say he sucks, but how can you say that Rodriguez is a poor man's Lilly when Rodriguez has been the better pitcher not only this season, but in each of the previous three seasons? You can't if you actually know what you are talking about.

Your "source" was obviously talking without knowing the facts.

If you compare just this season and the three previous ones, league-adjusted ERA would be irrelevant because both guys have been in the National League since 2007. In fact, they were in the same division until Lilly was shipped to the Dodgers during the 2010 season.
