Yanks and Sox open their series tomorrow tied for first in the AL East. It'll be interesting to see if the Yankees can get their collective heads out of their asses when they see the B's on the caps tomorrow night.

Apparently Billy Butler's new nickname is "Country Breakfast." How, um.... fitting...

EDIT: The Royals also brought up slugging 2B Joey Johnny Giovatella, who had been tearing the Pacific League a new asshole for six weeks. Viva la Revolucion!

We interrupt this thread to let poindexter know Jeff Mathis made a phenomenal block of the plate tonight to preserve Dan Haren's 7-1 lead. Even Bert Blyleven was impressed.

    3-0 shutout for Cliff Lee.

That's his fifth of the season.

Meaningless series since both teams are locks for October

LaRussa is really the biggest asshole in the game anymore. I'd rather hang out with Jose Canseco than with Tony.

Lee also has four games this season in which he's given up 5 or more earned runs, and three others where he's given up 4. His overall numbers look great, but he's been remarkably inconsistent.

I recall reading Lee's record is hovering aroung .500 since the trade to Texas last season (not counting the 0-2 in the Series). Says a lot about the Phillies' lineup as well.

yeah, i have mixed emotions over the latter point... the 'wild-card' has cost us several 'down-to-the-wire' pennant races between the bosox and yanks and robbed their regular-season matchups relatively meaningless and devoid of drama, since they almost always both make the playoffs.

but, by the same token, because they are almost always among the best three teams in the a.l. i think it's good that coming in second to the other team but still winning more games than any of the rest means they can still make the playoffs....

and then their post-season series almost NEVER fail to give mlb the kind of drama, intensity and memories that are at baseball's core.
