I wouldn't call him an asshole.

I would call him a fucking douchebag of the highest order though.

He's so beloved that some roofing company in Cincy, I believe, offered some sort of special in honor of Tony's bout with shingles.

Sure, it's tasteless... but the man doesn't inspire much sympathy even when he's ill.

The lack of class in this organization was on display for three days.

Complaints about scoreboard lighting, sign-stealing, headhunting, brazenly acknowledging the headhunting, another childish harangue of media by tiresome manager, chest bumping an umpire, said manager calling opposing fans idiots.

That's what Bissinger's book should have been about.

I live in the Cardinals TV zone. Watching their postgame show the last few nights was propaganda at its most hilarious. "Tony TV" -- the segment where they do the LaRussa postgame -- is must-see unintentionally funny programming on a game-to-game basis. He is the human embodiment of a vein ready to pop. Juxtaposed with some of his make-nice local St. Louis commercial endorsements, its even better.

Studio analyst Cal Eldred was all aflutter last night because he thought the umpire could have done a better job of walking away from Yadier Molina the other night.

Are you fucking serious, Cal? Why don't you go blow your arm out for the umpteenth time.

I also believe that La Russa threatened to attack with a fungo bat any member of the media who asked him about alcohol being involved in the wreck that killed Josh Hancock. It was something to the effect of "Any questions about that and I'll go after you with this fungo.." or something like that.

And yes, the Ray Vinson commercials are two shades past brutal.

Jack Clark used to be their analyst, if memory serves.

Clark was fired shortly after making negative comments about the organization.

Dusty runs a first baseman out to play left field and he manages to play a run-scoring double into a two-run inside-the-park home run by Tony Campana.
