I'm listening to the game on my iPhone because FOX is showing another game here.

But, I'll tell you, as much as you think you know baseball, something you would never predict happens every day.

How the hell does he have a day like this, after the season he's had?

Sterling and Waldman -- as you can imagine -- are losing their collective minds (which isn't much).

Again, not watching, but you could hear the crowd give him a lot of love as he came to the plate, and after he hit the grand slam, they were going wild until he came out for a curtain call, which didn't happen until the next batter had already faced one pitch.

Brewers just turned a triple play on the Dodgers. First and second, Loney hits a 4-6-3 up the middle with a nice backhanded glove flip by second baseman Josh Wilson. Betancourt to first, and Fielder's throw home beats Kemp trying to score from second.

First 4-6-3-2 triple play since 1972.

Thome hits both his 599 and 600 HRs in one game at Comerica Park, roughly 450 of which have come against Detroit.

At the onset of the year, I knew Jeter's 3,000 hits and Thome's 600 home runs were almost both for certain. Now eight have hit 600 homers, and half of them are dirty. Thome's 600 should be revered for days. It won't. That's too bad. But at least there won't be an O'Connor column tied to this one. That's good.

That's unpossible, because 517 have come against the Royals. And most of those appeared on radar for about 5 seconds.

Never talked to him, but he's a good guy by all accounts. Good for him.

Magic Number: 35 (which is only one off the Phillies' magic number)

It's been a few stops ago, but Thome was the one who really kick-started the Phillies' recent run of success. He was the first big free agent I can remember who signed there in about 20 years when he came in 2003. He brought a real buzz to that team that was missing for a long, long time. It helped that he hit almost 50 homers that season.
I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for him for that.

If the Royals don't sign top pick Bubba Starling in the next six minutes I'm considering taking a dump in a box and mailing it to David Glass.
