This didn't get nearly enough attention. Given how rare it is and given that we know three of the seven players ahead of him on the list did it with chemical help, Thome just doesn't get enough credit.

The guy hit over 40 home runs in a season six times and over 50 once. It's not like all he has done is hit home runs, either. His .277 career batting average is nothing special, but the .403 on-base percentage is. Sure, he added on as a DH at the end of his career, but he didn't become primarily a DH until he was 35.

It still amazes me that there are posters on SportsJournalists.com who actually argue against him as a Hall of Famer.

We agree on that. Always been a fan of the Thomenator. And who argues against Thome? I'd like to have that argument. He is one of my favorite non-Yankees.

Pirates spent $17 million in the draft. Eight million to Gerrit Cole and $5 million to second-round pick Josh Bell.

Bob Nutting takes a lot of shit (deservedly or not) for being cheap, but plunking down $13 million on two young guys in a day...wow.

I watched Sportscenter this morning and realized that the Twins-Tigers game highlights were buried 25 minutes into the show behind at least three or four MLB games, the NASCAR race (which ended before 1 p.m.) and Jets-Texans preseason crap.

those who question thome's credentials are just looking to pick a fight/stir the pot. it's too bad that he's worn numerous uniforms; that's more and more of a reality but there's no question in my mind that multiple stops in a player's career is a negative in how they are perceived. it's also a hindrance when it comes to the excitement/build-up to landmark achievements, imo.

Done with seconds remaining. I'm not sure who's the biggest winner here: Bubba, the Royals, Glass or the box.

Well played. Speaking of drawing flies, would liked to have been one on Pelini's wall when he got the word. Some Nebraska fans will probably mail Starling some dung.

Yeah, big ups to the Pirates for sure. That Bell actually signed — with anyone, not just Pittsburgh given that he had been saying all along he was going to Texas — has to be the stunner of the day.

They're all winners. Boras wanted 10 million, Royals offered 7.5. Last I read, the Royals I think the Royals got closer to their number.

Honestly, this is something KC couldn't fuck up. Glad they didn't.

I'm only slightly -- SLIGHTLY -- less happy about Bubba giving the shaft to Nebraska. Because, and I mean this with the deepest sincerity, fuck Nebraska.

Robbie Cano fouls off 7 straight pitches and then drills an HR to deep CF on the 12th pitch of the at bat.
