Wow. That is a big old "fuck you Miggy," since they're 24 hours away from the 40-man roster anyway. I guess they were bothered after all by his bitching about having to bunt. Shocking, because they said they weren't bothered by it.

EDIT: That report says they DFA'd Rowand too. Maybe they're calling up Gary Brown -- from Single-A??? -- but I think the message-sending/shakeup is the more significant part.

I missed the bunting stuff. When did this come up?

Wonder how they feel now about giving up a young stud pitcher for a guy who might not have much left. The Giants actually got worse offensively when Beltran arrived.

Over the weekend he got the bunt sign -- and he was so pissed about it that he actually called timeout to walk down the third-base line and ask "Are you sure about that?" He was shaking his head but they kept the bunt sign on. Then after he laid the bunt down, he barely even moved out of the batter's box. When asked about it and told fans weren't happy with the display, he said, I bunted, WTF do you want from me?

Jake Peavy skullfucked by the Twins for six in the first - including two, two-run homers. He threw something like 42 pitches.

I actually forgot Alex Rios was still playing.

Totally unprofessional. He's acting like he was Albert Pujols, not the dude hitting .220 with a slugging % of .324 (yep slugging, not BA, not OBP.) Aside from one ringing double to win the game against he Cards on the opening homestand, he's been dreadful.

    It is what it is.

The justification for DFA is in the numbers ... and they didn't have a better option than a 20-year veteran up to that point.

That said, the insubordination on the bunting issue very well might have been the last straw if I were making the decisions.

Also, Lee: I don't think that "young stud" pitcher is going to amount to much. He walks so many guys, even in Single-A. The Giants have really had a knack over the years of determining which "young stud" pitchers they should keep (Cain, Bumgarner, Russ Ortiz) and which they should use as trade bait (Bump, Grilli, Vogelsong, Ainsworth, Alderson). They got raked over the coals similarly when they gave up Tim Alderson for Freddy Sanchez in '09, and Alderson now has a career ERA of about 6.00 in the Pirates' system.

For 15 years, Sabean has made a habit of trading future pitchers for help now. Aside from Liriano and Joe Nathan, they really have never been on the losing side of that equation.

All that said, Beltran blows. But any Giants fan who says he didn't want Beltran here a month ago is lying.

Also similarly, they both benefitted from a healthy number of walks. Dodgers had six walks in that inning, three with the bases juiced, and in Seattle, the reliever came in and gave free passes to his first three batters, resulting in two runs.

Wheeler is 20 years old. We'll see what happens. The Mets haven't been pantsed on that trade yet.

And I guess I'm shocked that Hensley Meulens is actually a big league hitting coach.

The Giants ate $14 million in next year's salary to DFA Rowand. All so they could activate Pat Burrell today instead of tomorrow. That says quite a lot.

    It was a bad pickup.

Sabean has a rep for being some sort of half-assed magician and he has no organizational depth at a premium position.

I still think there's a heavy element of Monday morning quarterbacking in that. I certainly would have expected Tejada to be more of an offensive force than he turned out to be.
