The Giants have lost 18 games by scores of 2-1 or 1-0.

This year? I count 11, which is still a ton.

Must have been faulty information from one of the blogs. Beg pardon.

I saw another snippet that the Giants' 3.35 runs per game is the worst in 75 years, lower than the '88 Dodgers. Don't know if that's accurate or not.

This is not an GM/organization that has ever been prudent with money.

True ... and it made all the sense in the world to give Renteria his walking papers and try to get him on the cheap at the time, but I don't think they expected Tejada to lay such an egg. Of course, I'm still mystified as to why they thought Renteria would be an upgrade from Omar Vizquel.

When Rowand was a free agent, I was pretty much down on my knees begging the baseball Gods to have him sign with the Nats. Really liked him as a player. What happened? He just get old?

Being good is such a fragile thing. I saw the Giants earlier this year and said, "THAT team is the defending champion?"

As for jr/shottie's comment on Hamels, I agree. Don't tell folks in my new 'burg this, but I feel that way about a lot of the Phillies. I could actually like the Phillies if they weren't, you know, the Phillies.

I'm also open to negotiation for the Phillies to take one of theirs back.

Moddy, you already got rid of Matt Stairs though.

Sigh. Wonder this doesn't happen more often.

Harrisburg Senators clinch an Eastern League playoff spot last night. The champagne and beer flow freely. Four hours later, outfielder Archie Gilbert allegedly barrels through an active construction area on a nearby highway.

ESPN.com's Keith Law for one has been pretty outspoken about how baseball pretty much ignores its DUI epidemic, while wasting time on a lot of lesser issues. It's been four years since Josh Hancock killed himself in a drunken driving accident, and MLB is yet to discipline anyone (even managers) for drinking and driving.

Let the cops discipline DUI managers and players.

You know as well as I do that if you can afford a good lawyer (which all MLB on-field personnel can) that you can basically avoid any punishment for DUI. Dante Stallworth killed a guy and did 24 days in jail.

Incidentally, it's been a helluva 24 hours for those Harrisburg Senators ... of which B.J. Wallace is a former pitcher.

Hope F.P. Santangelo, Wes Chamberlain and Joey Eischen are being good.
