There's no realistic deterrent for a person who has millions of dollars and works for a company that, if it had to, would chauffeur and babysit him all over town in order to have his services available.

I know Billy Beane banned beer in the A's clubhouse after Esteban Loaiza got caught doing 120 while loaded. It was very sensible.

Sad watching Vlad Guerrero run the bases, even on a home run trot.

Second-best player ever to come through this little burg, behind ... Cliff Floyd.

Oh, what Cliff Floyd could have done if he hadn't destroyed his wrist.

During the years I was an Eastern League season ticket holder, NOBODY hit the ball harder than Cliff Floyd.

Oh yeah, even on that double he hit it was painful to watch. Maybe 500 on hand to watch the Jays-O's today due - in part - to the setup for the Baltimore Grand Prix. I didn't know there was such a thing.

This is not exactly news, but A. J. Burnett really is a useless bum. Why don't the Yankees just eat the money and dump his sorry ass?

Almost two hours old, fourth inning, three runs.

You want to give it a shot and try to enjoy this, but it's just a chore to watch.

Can't they just make it a miniseries, like "Winds of War?"

Not that I expect the Cardinals to run them down, but are the Brewers starting to pucker a little bit after St. Louis' three-game sweep — with two beatdowns — in the last three days? With the August surge, I expect Milwaukee to go ahead and win the NL Central. If, however, the Brewers go on to lose their next series and the Cards win or sweep against the Reds, it will be real interesting when the teams play again next week.

Either way, the Cards have taken the shine off the Brewers — and might have just shown how they're still not ready for prime time. I wouldn't plan that World Series victory parade just yet.

Strasburg was pretty sick tonight in Harrisburg.

Six shutout innings, one hit. 70 pitches, 53 for strikes. Steady 95-96, topped out at 99.

    Pudge was his catcher.

Mark Lerner, Mike Rizzo and Bob Boone among the Nationals contingent behind the plate. And more important, the Cowboy Monkeys were there.

Big ol' night on the island.
