He's a red-ass, yes. Fits right in with Guillen and Williams.

That organization has been controlled chaos for years. They don't know things any other way by this point.

Joe West just called Hunter Pence out on fan interference after viewing a replay of an attempted jumping catch at the wall in RF. I've got Marlins broadcasters, and they haven't said one way or the other, but I suspect that the Phillies have protested the game. I also suspect that they have a case. It WAS close to the yellow line, but can they look at it to see if it was a home run, and then use the replay to make a separate call?

It was, of course, Phillies fans in Florida.

    ETA: Yes, they have protested.

Meanwhile, Girardi's going to the other extreme of overmanaging, and leaving CC to pitch the 8th even though he's already at 107 pitches and threw 128 against Boston in his last start.

And then Joe will wonder why Sabathia runs out of gas by the playoffs.

Deskslave, there's a big debate on Twitter going on about the Philly game. Matt Gelb from the Inquirer has his Twitter feed going...

MLB has to do something about fan interference, too. This is getting ridiculous. It's one thing to have ESPN anchors gently chiding the fans about $5 baseballs, but one of these days fan interference is really going to enter into a game.

    Oh, wait...

"Joe West just usurped Bud Selig as commissioner."

That's pretty excellent. Utterly unsurprising, as well. I love the fact that instant replay doesn't appear to be in the rulebook.

Here's the thing: Even if the Phils lose and their protest is upheld, how badly do they want to come back to Miami to play 4 innings when they have 33 in 31 still to play?

If this thread forces me to relive a certain game yet again, I'm going to punch someone in the face. Probably Dusty Baker.

Just end the season today and mail the trophy to Philadelphia.

If they win the protest Philly should do all of baseball a favor and tell Selig they'll rescind the protest if he'll fire Cowboy Fucking Joe.

Arizona is running away with the division with several outcasts and an August call-up in its starting lineup.

Arizona got hot at the right time, as the Dodgers are, what, 11-1? 12-1 depending on the next few innings?

Sorry, Rick. That wasn't my intent, but if you want to punch Dusty Baker I'd say go for it... :)
