more classic reax... When I woke up this morning, I thought, "Hey, maybe this crushing defeat will kill off some of the Cowboy-Uppers and the Pink-Hatters and we'll be closer to my ideal mix of Boston Red Sox fans: old angry drunk guys in bars, young angry drunk guys in bars, old and young angry drunk guys at Fenway who heckle Harvard fans and/or minorities, some other minorities who feel weird about being Sox fans, 3 who openly hate the city itself, and, as a result, secretly want the Sox to lose forever." http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7034858/f@#-guys

To piggyback Terrier from earlier: To say Papelbon isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer is an insult to butter knives everywhere.

Baseball told a story all on its own last night. You didn't need George Will or Ken Burns to dress up the occasion with all sorts of half-assed cosmic frou-frou and faux-poetic gibbering. You didn't need Dan Shaughnessy yammering about curses. You didn't need to have watched the game with your dad in person. It's all there in the play-by-play. I'm trying to think of a more satisfying six minutes in baseball history, and I'm failing. Pap's not delivering any weak-ass apologies like Crawford did. This is why Pap can handle the biggest of the big leagues and will win again, whether in Boston or New York.
This is the kind of stubborn fuck-you attitude the Sox could've used throughout the month during all those games they got behind early and rolled over in. This is the mentality it takes to play in a Boston, a New York, Philly or Chicago.
He has a ring. So does Lackey - he's WON a Game 7 of a World Series. Crawford doesn't.

Are you serious? You're hammering Crawford, who was at least accountable and stand-up in defeat, and not mentioning a word about Adrian Gonzalez, who whined about the schedule and then said it wasn't in God's plan for the Sox to make the playoffs?

At this point I'd rather have six more years of Crawford than seven more years of Gonzalez, who is the perfect Lord Theo player in more ways than one, none of them good.

And a buncha good Papelbon's "fuck you" attitude did last night. Or last week against the O's. Cute though that he insists on continuing to refer himself to Rivera. I'm sure Rivera gets a chuckle out of that.

Gonzalez blamed the quirks of the schedule. That's more pitiful than any excuses that have been made.
