The Rays got fucked by two afternoon dates, though it is a community where the unemployment rate is such that people are freer to go to those games.

I was just wondering how many Game 5s there'd been in the last few years. Knew it wasn't very many. Thanks.

Victor something or other on the broadcast said the attendance last night and tonight was 48,000 something, and tonight was right around there as well.

Whoever announces their attendance must announce attendance for the Jacksonville Jaguars as well.

No way was there that many there. The top 2/3 of the upper deck was empty all the way around.

This is only the third time that three first round series have gone five games. The other two years were 1981 & 2001.

There was an extra round of playoffs in 81 due to the split season that resulted from the strike.

The Diamondbacks sold out their two home games in the 2007 NLDS against the Cubs.

I hesitate to follow the media lead of tying everything to the economy, but Arizona has been blown apart by the housing crisis. Up to 70 percent of Phoenix-area homeowners are underwater on their mortgages, and a significant portion would need their homes to double in value tomorrow just to break even. Unemployment is about at the national average, but that's with the addition of lots of low-wage jobs lately; all in all, not a good time to be a Phoenix-area business depending on a family's entertainment dollars.

In that one, there's the ex-pat Cub factor. Phoenix area a popular retirement area for Midwesterners, part of why the White Sox moved from Florida. On the other hand, just about everyone is Arizona is from somewhere else and, despite a World Series title, may not have bonded with the D'backs yet like they have their hometown teams.

Fans have spent their disposable income on Coyotes season tickets.

I am just not surprised by smallish crowds anymore. Far into the future, after we're all dead and gone, probably no one will attend games.

I agree. It is cheaper, and with HD it can be more enjoyable then trekking to the Ball park, arena of stadium.
