I have to admit Posada isn't quite as washed up as I thought. Now, he should never face a lefty ever again, but this year against righties he hit .269/.348/.466. As a platoon DH and insurance at 1B/C, I think he can give you about 300 good at-bats. The question becomes can his pride take the roughly $10-12 million pay cut needed for someone to want him in that role.

the pride will take a hit in terms of money and his role on the team. he really should owe the team money from what he was paid this season. they definitely thought he would catch at least half the games when he signed that deal. he is way more emotional, animated than Bernie so i can definitely see a bit of a soap opera. but realistically he was below average defensively the last 2 seasons. he lost arm strength, had more difficulty handling high and outside pitches and he pretty much never blocked the plate, even in his prime. agree that he can be a solid DH vs RHP but even the Yankees can't justify 5 mil for a part time dh, once a month 1b

Don't get me wrong, not blaming him for the loss, just agreeing with what some people were saying earlier.

Yankees just didn't get the big hit when they needed too, and those two early homers by Kelly and Young killed them.

ESPN just showed Free Press front page. Headline: "The Empire Strikes Out"

    That's pretty good.

agreed. if Martin or ARod gets a hit with the bases loaded and the Yankees take the lead does anyone say 'how did Leyland not use Verlander?'

With Martin struggling, I might have pinch hit Montero for him in the late innings. They already were losing and they wouldn't have had to rely on Montero for that much defense. Maybe Montero could have given them a jolt.

The American League team batting average in 2000 was .276. In 2011, it was .258. That's an 18-point difference, not 40.

And remember, you also had a bunch of players juicing, and an expansion team that was only four years old.

Good stuff, but please don't feed the troll. He has nothing of value to contribute to a legitimate discussion of baseball.

Eh, to me, that production is maybe worth a million or two. He only managed six innings at catcher this year, and he was never good behind the dish defensively to begin with. If you just need someone to plug the DH/1B hole, I think most teams have a Four-A guy who can provide that kind of production. He's also 40 at this point. If he wants to slum it, I could see him serving as a Jason Giambi type in the NL, lingering at the end of the bench for some late game pinch hitting opportunities.
