My fanboi rationalization is kicking in and saying he won't have the money to blow on free agents this time around. I just want him to build the scouting and development department from the ground up.

This is what happens when a.) you get completely away from the philosophies that built two World Series champions (especially the second one) and b.) carry yourself in such an imperious manner that Dan Duquette looks modest and down-to-Earth in comparison.

Doesn't matter on B. I still don't like him as a color guy.

Who the hell let McCarver out of the hospital?

So why do they go to a best of 7 after the first round?

You argued that he was a poor investment because of the relatively small percentage of the team's outs that he accounted for. But hey, you don't have time for long, involved arguments -- the kind that include proper support of your points. :)

At least we aren't going to get swept. Always good to get on the board.

Tonight's game was encouraging, but there's a long road left.

I wonder if Ricciardi gets another shot. He's already in the area.

It could also mean more power for Larry Lucchino.

Make a counterpoint or move on.

The money earned per outs was supposed to be inexact, yet also some indication of how overpaid and underused he is for that salary.

The roster was that unsettled until the night they were mercifully relieved of their burdens, and the guy is making that kind of coin to pitch 64 1/3 innings. And then when they /really/ need him, he gets beat by Robert Andino.

Will Epstein take Bill James with him to Chicago?

Stop moving the goal posts and it would have been let go already. The fact that he failed in game 162 was not part of your initial argument, but it is better than the point you tried to make about innings pitched.

Sorry to break it to you, but somebody was going to have to handle that role. If Papelbon was gone, Boston's "cheap" option was Daniel Bard, the guy who completely fell apart late in the season. But yeah, they would have been just fine with him closing all year. ::)
