Leave it to Dave Duncan to turn this mediocre Cardinals relief corps into the second coming of the Nasty Boys. If he isn't the greatest pitching coach ever, who is?

And leave it to Ron Washington to screw it up when he has the more talented team from top to bottom.

Cardinals fan bet $250 on Sept. 12 for St. Louis to win NL pennant and World Series at 500/1 and 999/1. He's already up $125,000 for the pennant, and would win an additional $250,000 if they win it all.

I can't even imagine watching this game knowing a 2-0 lead would get you halfway to winning a quarter million dollars.

Over-under on Cardinals pitching changes this half-inning is 4.5.

Is the Punto due up to try to salvage his perfect record?

Wilson was 15-8 with a 3.35 ERA in 2010, which was not a contract year. He went 16-5 with a 2.94 ERA this season. He had no track record as a starter before 2010. Maybe the improvement was a contract year. Maybe it was just a natural progression in his second season as a starter.

Burnett had a much longer track record before the Yankees gave him the big contract, but he had never had back-to-back seasons as good as what Wilson has done. Heck he had an ERA over 4 his final season in Toronto.

Wilson doesn't have Burnett's talent and he does have a similar problem with walks, but I don't see how you can say Wilson only produces in contract years if you really look at his career.
