Huge for Rangers to even it up there.

Texas in 5 (6 at most).

Great starting pitching tonight on both sides, and definitely the best game I've seen Garcia throw. I really thought that Craig's RBI was going to stand up as the winning run, but Motte spit the bit. Oh well, shit happens.

Balls will be flying out of the yard when the series shifts to Texas. With Craig in the lineup as DH, it should still be a pretty even matchup between the teams.

IJAG, rub that damn Punto doll harder, then softer, then harder ...

If Texas wins the next two does he put 100k on the Rangers in Game 5?

Only Tony LaRussa would use Gerald Laird as a pinch-runner.

Cards need to get Theriot in the line-up...

Why don't you go back and re-read that and tell me again if I said, specifically, that Wilson only produces in contract years. I'll be as patient as I know how while you figure it out.

I think he's fool's gold and wouldn't want my team to sign him.

You made the comparison to Burnett, including a reference to his history of only producing in contract years. Pardon me for assuming you would include only information you felt was relevant in your post.

Bottom line is the storyline is very different between those two. Unlike Burnett, Wilson has had nothing but success as a starting pitcher, at least during the regular season.

You seem hung up on wins and ERA in all of these discussions. It's very 1986 of you.

I doubt very highly that this is real. The Cardinals trailed Atlanta by 4 1/2 games on Sept. 12. That is not the kind of long shot that would merit 1,000 to 1 odds in Vegas. In reality there is almost nothing that merits 1,000-1 odds in Vegas -- that's the kind of number you see next to a #15 or 16 seed winning the NCAA tournament. This case would be slightly more believable if the "bet" was placed when the Cardinals were 10 1/2 back, but even then I wouldn't be convinced until the ticket-holder or the casino verified it.

As a point of reference, before the season the Royals and Pirates were listed at 200-1 online (online typically offers longer odds than casinos).

ERA is still the best way to evaluate a pitcher. Wins? Way down the list, but not completely useless. Wilson also had a good K rate both seasons. He had a decent WHIP in 2010 and a much better one in 2011. He makes up for the relatively-high walk totals by being very hard to hit.

All of this while playing his home games in one of the best hitter's parks in the majors.

RA is better. You don't get to hide behind "Oops, defense made a two-out error then I walked six straight guys and gave up a grand slam."

    Bingo.

John Smiley had a couple of excellent years when he was pulled out of the bullpen. Nobody backed up the trucks and gave him $100M, the kind of money Wilson wants.

What's wrong with wanting $100M? And if someone's optimistic (foolish) enough about your worth to give it to you, what's wrong with taking it?
