If La Russa had a sense of humor, he'd do one of those commercials this offseason ... if he had a sense of humor.

Discover, I believe. Bobby Bowden and Lou Holtz have both done those spots.

The Kirk Herbstreit one actually cracked me up: "What number on Herb Street, Mr. Kirk?"

Fun read but the point is inarguable among the sane: Mike Napoli's success this fall, at the plate and behind it, should end any debate over the adequacy of Mike Scioscia as a major league manager. On his best day, he is in fact merely adequate and better than Joe Girardi. That's it.

This postseason and the final few weeks of the regular season has had a rare and marvelous way of defrocking some frauds.

One of whom proved the Peter Principle is in fact real by becoming the president of the Cubs!

OK, let's base a guy's (Scioscia) whole managerial career on one season where one guy (Napoli) plays out of his mind.
Let's fast-forward a year. What are all the experts going to say if Napoli reverts to his norm -- .215, 25 HRs, 50 RBIs -- and Vernon Wells reverts to his norm -- .280, 30, 100?
The Angels would not have been able to trade Juan Rivera and Mathis for Wells.
