Fair enough, but you get my point. I will say catchable ball then.

Three in 33 years is pretty damn good for anyone but the Yankees.

How many franchises have won more World Championships than LaRussa over that span? Just one, New York.

I only count 7 franchises that have won just 2 in the last 33 years - Los Angeles, Minnesota, Boston, Toronto, Philadelphia, Florida, and St. Louis. So LaRussa teams have won more titles than 23 of the 30 teams in baseball since 1979.

You really think 3 in 33 isn't a big deal?

Like just about everybody else here, I'm not a LaRussa fan. But he's just the ninth manager in the history of the game to win three titles. Not the best of all-time, but 3 in 33 is a really fucking big deal.

Tony LaRussa needs to die in a fire.

Are you implying that Tony LaRussa gets head from puppies?

Because if so, I'm intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

I might rank this No. 1 above all of those. So many entertaining games. Game 6 was quite possibly the single most dramatic game I've ever seen (and its errors only made it more compelling), Pujols' 3 home run game, the hometown boy being MVP, the Cards ridiculous late season comeback just to make the post-season, the LaRussa hate factor--so damn much that was entertaining about this one.

I'm sure it'll never get the attention in the long run that 86 got, but that's largely due to the New York/Boston media factor--absent the one notorious Game 6 Buckner game, I don't remember that series being as entertaining over the entire 7 game arc.

It'll be interesting to see the final TV rating numbers. If THIS series didn't give baseball a nice boost, then there's some serious problems. MLB couldn't have prayed for a more entertaining series, doubt they'll get another one like it for a long time.

WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT RATINGS????

Anyhow, it's easily the best World Series since 2001, and I'm glad as hell there was finally a seven-game World Series, but I'm not so sure about putting it in the pantheon of best-ever.

You have one glowing iconic game that will live forever -- Game 6 -- and one kind of hilarious fuck-up of a game -- Game 5.

The rest were good, but not iconic, even the Pujols three-home run game, which is neat, but occurred in a game the Cardinals would have won anyway. From start to finish, there's been more than a few seven-game World Series that were like this one.

To wit, look up the box scores of the 1972 World Series between the A's and Reds. For some reason, it is not widely considered a classic WS, despite all but one game being decided by one run, two of the games decided on walk-offs.

I think this WS is in that class. Fun as hell, though, and that's all I ask from a WS.

Didn't we realize the idiocy of this just about one year ago?

How the fuck did this Cardinals team win the World Series? Let me repeat, how the FUCK did this Cardinals team win? In my opinion, they're the 3rd-worst WS winning team ever, behind the 87 Twins and 06 Cards. Seriously, this team isn't that good.

As for Washington, why wasn't Holland starting Game 7? Instead, he uses him in relief in Game 6. Unfuckingbelievable.
