BC's anomalous status as a competitor (not a particularly successful one, but not a patsy, either) in big-time college football and basketball in a town that doesn't give a damn about those sports interests me. But Ryan, your question could be extended to at least 50 schools. Many of them are in bowl games this season.

There's nothing wrong with an old-school mindset. A big part of what makes college sports great is the traditional rivalries, especially since football and basketball have gotten so big, they're barely recognizable from their past.

Outside of Duke and UNC (plus Syracuse, which they are already rivals), are there other ACC rivals that Pitt fans will care about?

Half the teams in the league depend on this method to avoid blackouts. Dolphins do it almost every week. Jags are not unique in this regard. That's what he is trying to say, I believe,

I could see them developing a rivalry with Maryland. It's certainly not there now.

There's that, and make sure you finish 2d instead of 1st in your division to avoid playing in the Conf Championship game. Division champs who fall just short in the title game tend to get punished by the BCS for it, you're better off being second.

That's what happens when you bring Big East teams to North Carolina.

I saw a tweet that said there is not one bowl in December between two ranked teams.

They're very excited about getting Virginia Tech and Miami back on the schedule along witth having Climpson and Florida State. Pitt's also re-claiming an old rivalry in BC and keeping on with Syracuse.

Yes, a Wyoming team that was ranked in the top five versus an UNRANKED LSU team. And the fact that you have to go back to the 1960's to pull that nonsense out actually strengthens my point.

    A. That was in Jacksonville

    B. Tech did its part for that one. A good 25,000 or so fans made the trip, not bad considering the likelihood of a bowl game trip on the horizon. For lots of fans, they'll choose one or the other. Or in the BC fan's case, neither. The hockey game against Merrimack is more important. :)

It took Flutie to make it a football school, however briefly.

Otherwise . . . when they're not playing Notre Dame . . . and the Irish don't want to punt around that concept, anymore, because they're cowards . . . why bother?
