Jeez. Both the Big East and ACC should have their automatic berth taken away. Seems like every fucking year the worst BCS matchups are the games where we "have to" make room for the champions of those two conferences. I would much rather see a team like Boise State get a shot in a BCS game than these games where were forced to squeeze in a Cincy, Wake Forest, Clemson, Pitt, UConn, etc. simply because they happened to win a weak ass conf title game.

Or, better yet, blow the BCS up competely and bring us a playoff. There's a novel idea.

I don't know if Geno Smith took a couple of weeks off during the year, but he's damn good.

Clearly WVU used their time wisely in the past month and Clemson did not.

Our previous disagreements and jabs aside, you realize Alabama and LSU combined for nearly 600 yards, don't you? I wouldn't exactly call that an after thought against those two defenses.

Can we add the Pac-10 to that list, too? They went 2-5 this year.

And if we're yanking AQ bids based on not having won a national championship in recent memory, let's just name the SEC champ the national champion, have a non-SEC championship game and be done with it.

Let's just give all 10 BCS berths to SEC teams and be done with it. OK, nine berths. Boise State can get in ahead of Vandy.

The Pac-10/12 is 11-6 all-time in BCS bowls, according to a graphic I saw today (not sure if Colorado and Utah were lumped in there). That's the second-best all-time record, one the horrible ACC would love to even come close to matching.

The league was down this year, especially with USC ineligible. But on the whole it has performed very well in the BCS, and are a shanked FG away from being 2-0 in the BCS this year with wins over the Big Ten and Big 12 champions.

It seemed like in Boredom Bowl I, both teams just wanted to get to the other teams 25 yard line, run 3 dive plays up the gut, then hope you get 3 out of it.

Saban system is successful but in the age of spread offenses of all varieties, boring to watch.

System allows Saban to control game and minimize risk. He wants to control clock and ideally run 60 offensive plays.

Faster paced game puts ball back in opponents hands quicker and you can end up like Clemson did last night.

Saban is still living in the Woody / Bo era. Does not mean it's wrong but it doesn't make it much fun to watch either.

I consider myself old school but today I much prefer the Urban Meyer / Chip Kelly / Mike Leach systems.

My problem with the TV market argument for the ACC is this: Do those markets actually give a shit about the ACC team in town?

Boston doesn't care about BC. DC cares about Maryland basketball. (And the football team isn't going to the BCS.) The Triangle cares about basketball. Miami doesn't care about The U anything. Georgia Tech might as well not even exist in Atlanta.

Right now I see a conference full of 80% full 60,000-seat stadiums, and a couple of sleeping giants that have been that way for years. Meanwhile, the standard bearers (VT/Clemson) are jokes.

Honestly, the DC area cares more about Va. Tech football than it does Maryland football. Tech is the statewide team, though that's changing as UVa has started to gain some traction under London.

And Tech is not a joke. Yes, I'm an alum, so I'm biased, but this was a VT team that was not expected to do a whole lot this season, which is why the team played such a joke of a schedule. Beamer knew he was breaking in a converted tight end at quarterback and replacing a senior starter. Tech should not have gotten an invite to the Sugar Bowl, but let's not act like Michigan blew the Hokies out. VT dominated that game but made far too many critical mistakes to win it. Don't get me started on Beamer -- when he has a 260-pound quarterback who loves contact -- calling that fake punt. Idiotic call, one he'll probably regret for a long time.

As for the sleeping giants? I can't say I ever see Miami getting back to its glory days form. Ever. I think the program as we knew it in the 80s and the early 00s is over and done. Florida State should be better than it is, and Jimbo will soon learn that the fan base won't accept 9-win seasons and Champs Sports Bowl wins as "success." They'll be under quite a bit of pressure next season to return to top 10 form. He got a little bit of a break this year because of the Manuel injury.

UNC has some potential. Curious to see what Fedora can do in Chapel Hill.

Virginia Tech's best wins in the last decade are:

    2003 Miami
    2004 Miami
    2005 West Virginia

'03 Miami was damn good but entering its Flaky Period (see also: 2006-2008 Southern Cal). '04 Miami was likewise. '05 West Virginia hadn't turned up the jets yet. Outside of that? The bed crapped over and over again.
