And over a rookie who would be playing against the Green Bay defense in his first NFL start.

I think the Chiefs' win is more of an indictment against Haley (and the team that flat-out quit on him) than it is an endorsement of Crennel.

If I'm Pioli, I'm taking a hard look at the players who somehow managed to show up yesterday after mailing it in for the last 5 weeks.

Haley's team quit as early as Week 2 when they got their shit kicked in by the Lions.

A team that gives up 48 points in the second week of the season has problems.

Considering Pioli's history with Crennel, it would be based on a lot more than just one game.

You said "considering what happened yesterday they should stick with Crennel". This leads me to believe that because Crennel won 1 game you think he should be their coach. Would you feel the same if they had lost by 1?

    Coughlin is safe?

If they don't make the playoffs, I think this may be the end for him. Especially if they have a couple more performances like this one yesterday.

My guess - he survives, win or lose, and fewell is let go. They try to get Spagnuolo back if hes fired.

Detroit was harboring a longstanding grudge against the Chiefs, and took it out, then.

That looks like a list for a team looking to get a coach on the cheap.

That said, I remember a while back thinking that Mularky would make an interesting candidate after a season in which he showed more creativity & out of the box thinking as the OC for Pittsburgh than any I've ever seen.

It's been said Haley's hard-ass act was overcompensation for his paltry football background. He was another one of those guys whose daddy warms every seat for him (and a future great tactical mind who played golf, and not football, in college).

Nobody would even know who Haley was if Larry Fitzgerald didn't go apeshit in the 2008-09 postseason.

I think they could do worse than Romeo Crennel.

They could also probably do better. But with all of the jobs that are opening up, there really aren't that many big names out there. You'll hear a lot about Gruden and Cowher and Dungy and those guys aren't coming back. It's basically Fisher and a bunch of assistants that few have heard of. That doesn't mean they're bad, but for every Mike McCarthy, there are 10 guys who don't last three years.

There are a lot of interim coaches who get jobs they probably didn't deserve by rolling off a few meaningless wins at the end of the season (Mike Singletary, etc...)

But KC's win over an undefeated Packers team was pretty impressive. Were the Chiefs extra-hopped up because an undefeated team was coming into Arrowhead? Probably. Will they play like that again next week? We'll see.

I don't think Crennel will get the job. He's too old and Pioli probably has some hotshot in mind.

But it was kind of fun to see how much the players got behind Crennel yesterday. His defense made one of the better teams in recent memory look pretty shitty.

Crennel had a 10-win season in Cleveland. He also had three god-awful seasons there.

Coughlin may only be safe if they make the playoffs. If he does come back, I think it would be a boon to the Giants if they were to get Spagnuolo back.

I think the Philadelphia situation is similar in that Reid is safe, but the DC will get canned. The Eagles — and I said this to a friend before yesterday's slaughter of the Jets — are finally getting it together and they're going to be very dangerous next year.

The Eagles are always going to be dangerous next year. :D

It's the current year where they usually seem to shit the bed or fall short. :D
