The deal is pretty much this. If you were coaching a team last year and it didn't make the playoffs, and it didn't make them this year - you should consider yourself lucky to keep your job and expect to be fired next year if you don't make make the post-season.
That leaves Whisenhunt, Shanahan, Gailey, and Norv. And Frazier and Garrett who were interims.

It could happen... The Chiefs could hire Crennel and then hire the McCoach as the OC and HC in waiting...

I actually think McDaniels could be OK if he has a GM to keep him in check, something he definitely did not have in Denver.

Who would you rather have McDaniels or Mike Sherman?

I think McDaniels napalmed that organization in so short a time, and so fantastically, that it didn't go unnoticed around the league. He singlehandedly broke the franchise. Norv Turner is a terrible coach. But he has a great reputation, unlike McDaniels. If Norv gets canned today, he'll have another job lickety split.

I don't know why Mike Sherman takes a beating on this board. Is he an asshole? He seems to have done a decent job.

    Raheem Morris was pretty gracious.

The Bucs was the one situation I have no clue on what happened. It really seemed like a locker room situation - there is bad and losing, but the Bucs don't seem like they've really played hard at all the last half of the season. You look how close they were last year and it isn't like they lost a Peyton Manning.

I should say at least that is what Mortensen is reporting:

I seem to remember this board ganging up and screaming racist when someone here questioned his ability as a coach. At the time, I didn't see anything other than their surprise succes, but this was a team this year that looked like they had no coach. Maybe an apology is in order.

Morris was never anything higher than a position coach. He was rushed into this job.

Whatever chops he'd earned were on the defensive side and that defense sucked this year.

    Polians gone. Shocking.
