As we speak, literally tens of outraged San Diego Chargers fans are contemplating writing outraged letters to the newspaper, except they can't remember the new name and are too busy drinking a Mojito at a beachside bar to be bothered to look it up.

Lurie says "I want to see our team coached by Andy Reid and I can’t wait to see that team play" and that Reid has control over the fate of the coaching staff.

No surprise there. I'm sure he may "encourage" Reid to make a few staff moves though...

"I want to see our team coached by Andy Reid" seems just short of "Andy Reid is definitely coming back next season" but maybe I'm reading too much into the blog post without having seen the press conference.

And Tomlin's run could very easily last well into the 2020s.

It's an odd choice of words, but I don't think there's any hidden meaning behind it.

My only question would be if Reid is hinting at retirement or quitting.

That's the way I read it, too. Seemed questionable to me in a few of his press conferences that Reid even wanted to keep his job.

I've mentioned this on the board a few times, but my first encounter with Tomlin was at the 2005 Senior Bowl, when he was still DBs coach for Tampa Bay.

My first thoughts after speaking with him for 4-5 minutes (for a pre-draft feature on Auburn's Carlos Rogers) were:

    1. That guy looks just like Omar Epps.
    2. He's gonna be a head coach one day.

I met Tomlin in passing at the combine. I think he had just been hired by the Vikings and I was with one of the Minnesota writers who basically said, "He's not going to be an assistant for much longer."

There are assistants that have a HC presence. He definitely did.

Jerry Gray and Mike Sherman to interview with the Bucs.

It sounds like Reid had better win in 2012 or he's gone.

I don't blame Lurie. While I'm not going to predict greatness next season for the Eagles, it wouldn't surprise me if they began the season again as favorites to win the East.

Heard a rumor that Spagnuolo's in the frame for DC in Philly...
