Rob Ryan wishes he had that presence. He still thinks he's going to get one of the available head jobs.

The only one that has sung Brian Schottenheimer's praises as an imminent head coach is his bigmouth boss, and the only one singing Rob's is Rob.

That would make sense. His QBs love him.

True, but there are some when you hear they were hired and you think, "No way..." and you're usually right. Linehan, Spagnuolo, Childress, Marinelli were all guys who you heard them mentioned as a HC and you had to laugh...

The guy everybody was wrong about was McCarthy. Everybody thought he was a buffoon when he was first hired. He was at the combine that year and the consensus was that he'd be lucky to get a second season.

I maintain that a big part of why people underestimate McCarthy is because he's just goofy looking ... in a Clint Howard sort of way.

Norv must be a super employee. Spanos is now saying that keeping the regime might be a hard sell to season ticketholders.

    Well played.

It kind of blows my mind that Smith and McCarthy -- neither of whom are the greatest game managers of all-time -- managed to square off for a conference championship.

Assuming the Giants or Cowboys don't make some big splash signing(s), I'd almost guarantee the Eagles are the favorite to win the division next year. If there were an 18-game schedule this season, I think Philly would have rallied to win the NFC East.

The Eagles need a new defensive coordinator, you know, one who has actually coached defense before, but they were coming on strong to finish the season and if Vick stays healthy next year (the standard caveat with him), they may just live up to the hype that surrounded them this year.

I think McCarthy is a great quarterbacks coach, but he also has an incredibly coachable quarterback. He's cured Rodgers of most of the flaws that he had early in his career, like the way he held the ball, getting rid of the ball faster and not diving when running the ball.

What impressed me the most about McCarthy was how he coaxed that season out of Favre in 2007. Favre was awful in 2005 and pretty mediocre in 2006. Favre was so supremely unmotivated during his last few seasons with the Packers and was pretty uncoachable. That 13-3 season came out of nowhere. I know the Packers were 8-8 the year before, but that was a very misleading 8-8. I think they won four straight to end the season, and were all against either crappy teams or a Bears team that was resting starters.

Packers OC Joe Philbin to interview with the Chiefs.

Philbin is one of those guys who it is extremely difficult to imagine as a NFL head coach.

I would think Hunt and Co. would prefer someone with HC experience.

Westport will burn to the ground if McDaniels is even given an interview.

It's been a full quarter-century since Glory Be To God. The grace period is over. They finally have a legit QB, who with Mikee Martz gone, is likely to survive the season. They need to hunker down, spend money and be real. Peppers was a good start. They need to keep it up, but with that ownership, it's no cinch.
