Not sure how much I love the fact that Lovie is essentially the hire lead to find himself a new boss.

    Ugh.

Brad Biggs writes that Lovie Smith now has 28 ex-assistant coaches that have worked with him in Chicago. That is amazing.

Didn't he fire Rivera because he thought he was taking all of the credit for the play of the defense and interviewing for too many HC jobs? I'm sure there was more to it, but I remember Rivera being let go late in the game (late Feb. maybe?) at a point when most teams already have their staff hired.

It definitely struck me as a "fuck you" move.

Michael Silver is carving John Herrera on twitter. Apparently, the Raiders lied about a bunch of defensive coaches being fired.

The Raiders would NEVER do something like that. :D

    From Hell. :D

I'm assuming his kid is in charge. The last few years before Davis died, the writers who cover the team all said nothing would change when Al died, because the kid was just as bad.

To be fair, there are teams in the NFL where if it is technically not a firing, and actually a contract that isn't renewed, they don't necessarily announce it.

It's a bad way to do things, but I know the team I used to cover did it once or twice and I know of other teams that are generally pretty media-friendly that have done it as well.

Reggie McKenzie to the Raiders is official.

Since Hue Jackson apparently isn't on board with the hire, I wouldn't be surprised to see McKenzie fire his ass and bring someone with him, like maybe Winston Moss or even Capers.

Even as a Titans fanboi, I've always admired Del Rio -- he seems to always put a well-coached team on the field. Something that, if you looked closely enough, you'd see that Jeff Fisher didn't.
