    Yes, he was.

He was 82-59 as a HC.

I would certainly hire him over Del Rio, Childress or Sherman...

Paging Mr Edwards and Mr Mangini.

As sidenote if anyone hires Brian Schottenheimer as HC they are out of their minds and must not have watched any of his brilliant offensive game plans this year.

Check Wade's record from Dec. 1 on.

My hire would be none of the above.

He was brutal last year for the Cowboys.

Uncle Wade was never great shakes but you could do far worse. He was the last guy to get Buffalo into the playoffs, and given how they've been the suck for the past decade-plus that deserves some props. His handling of that QB situation was atrocious, though.

I would never hire Wade has a HC, either, but . . .

As broadly evidenced, that's a tough job when you're always looking over your shoulder at some classic Botoxed egomaniac who may as well have Football for Dummies on his office desk and has the lack of good sense to actually fancy himself a general manager.

    Laughable.

Mike Sherman, Wade Phillips and Brad Childress... aka the other rumored candidates for the Bucs job.

Marty's playoff failings overshadow what would probably otherwise be a HOF coaching career.

Marty is night and day better than any of those candidates.

The Bucs should let Marty rebuild the team and then as soon as they're good again, he'll do something stupid like try to hire his brother as DC or just retire anyway and they can then hand the reins to someone else to finish the deal.

People forget how quickly he rebuilt the Chargers.

I agree Marty is better than his rep suggests, but a quarter-century of playoff chokes cannot be ignored. Any team that wants to win a Super Bowl shouldn't hire him as a head coach. Which makes him a perfect fit for the Buccaneers, where the Glazers are reaching a Culverhouse-esque level of incompetence and frugality.
