There are a lot of coaches out there who can thank the Dolphins for getting them a few extra million during bargaining... Nobody seems to want that job...

Fisher played the Dolphins as badly as Parcells used to play the Falcons and Buccaneers.

There are worse coaches, but there are certainly better coaches, too. This makes me think that the Colts don't expect Manning back, because the team is in total rebuilding mode.

We'll really know they're handing over everything to Luck if the Colts wait for Greg Roman (49ers offensive coordinator, former Stanford assistant head coach) to become available.

It seems to me they hired Caldwell to replace Dungy because he's not a strong personality. He's a guy who would let Manning do the work at the line of scrimmage without getting his feathers ruffled.

If the Colts hire a stronger personality, someone like — just for the sake of discussion — Bill Cowher, is that a sign they plan to draft Luck and cut ties with Manning?

If they hire another milquetoast coach, does it mean Manning stays and they try to leverage the No. 1 pick into a boatload of picks? Do they draft Luck and keep Manning?

What, if anything, will their next hire tell us about their strategy moving forward?

It seems that way to me. If they expected Manning to be back and healthy as the centerpiece of the organization, I'm not sure they'd have fired Caldwell.

I also think firing Polian was a way to make it easier to let Manning go. New guy doesn't have any baggage on that.

That's shaping up as a fascinating off-season decision. If Peyton doesn't budge from the $28M, I don't see how they can keep him.

With rookie No. 1 pick quarterbacks no longer costing $60 million off the top, Irsay is likely to be able to pony up the scratch to pay the $28 million. However, Irsay paying it doesn't mean Manning is healthy. In fact, it's very likely there's going to be no definitive answer on Manning's neck by March 1, when the bonus is due. I can see Irsay paying Manning the $28 million, with a promise to trade him later if Manning recovers. Or, if Luck flops, you can bring Manning back in.

Heck, if Jim Irsay took the pains to give Jim Caldwell as honorable an end as possible (which he did), I don't think Irsay will turn around and just cut Manning over $28 million, not after Manning made Irsay a very, very rich man.
