If by "most years" you mean "twice since 2001," you are correct. The Titans won 12-13 games "most years."

Four playoff appearances in his last 10 years, and overall six appearances in 16 years. Not bad, but not great, and certainly not something that would cause the fan base to rise up in protest of WHY DIDN'T YOU HIRE THIS GUY?!?!?!

Titans lost two home playoff games in Fisher's 16 seasons.

You and reality don't get along, do you?

I will be very curious who the Colts are looking at. I just don't see any of the retreads who are interviewing for the other jobs being what they're looking for.

There is no big-name assistant out there and they need someone who either can work with Manning or can help convince Luck that he wants to come to Indy. I don't know if there is a coach out there who can realistically do that.

I would think that if they expect Luck to be starting for them next year, they have to bring in an offensive-minded HC who has a history of working with young quarterbacks.

And that's the reason that firing Caldwell makes no sense unless they're going to cut ties with Manning. Are they really going to bring in a rookie head coach to navigate the minefield of the Manning/Luck Saga that is about to unfold? Seems like they'd be setting him up to fail.

There are a few scenarios in play here:
    A) Keep Manning, trade the No. 1 pick and hope to bolster the team in other areas for one last SB run with Manning at the helm.
    B) Keep Manning, risk taking luck and hope they can coexist for two seasons before Manning retires or moves on.
    C) Jettison Manning, pick Luck and move the franchise into a new era completely.

In the first two of those scenarios, it seems like Caldwell would be the best fit to stay at the helm, unless they have some veteran retread coach in mind, and I know who that person is.

A rookie head coach only makes sense for scenario C, unless Manning encouraged Caldwell's dismissal, and I've never heard anything about him being unhappy with his coach.

With Polian in charge, I was 100 percent certain the Colts were going to keep Manning and take Luck. Now, obviously, I'm not certain. But that still would be by far the best course. I suspect the melodrama would be much less than most people believe.

And we still have no clear idea just how good an NFL coach Jim Caldwell is . . . but, as noted, given the circumstances of his hiring, I have to believe they can do better -- much better.

I don't think Polian was fired for any other reason than Irsay momentarily emerged from his disorientation and decided he'd like control of his business back.

    Sort of like this ...

Manning has never struck me as someone who is going to bitch publicly about his coach.

Who is the veteran retread you're thinking of?

Manning has also never struck me as someone who is going to play a mentor role. Ever.

The Colts either go forward with Manning or Luck. I can't envision a scenario in which both are on the roster.

Sorry, that should have read "... and I don't know who that is."

Kravitz wrote today that the Colts are going to hire a young, defensive-minded coach and that the Colts already know who they want and they know they can get him. He also never says who that coach is....

Meanwhile, the main story in the Star lists possible candidates that are either completely unrealistic (Gruden, Dungy, Cowher); retreads (Sherman, Childress, Mornhinweg, Phillips, Williams, Capers, Schottenheimer), assistants that would excite nobody (Philbin, Zimmer, Allen, Fewell...), the obligatory annual Kirk Ferentz mention and the absurd (Jim Tressel).

    Good luck Indy...
