Begs the question what Frank Reich was doing coaching wide receivers.

Looks like some of that old Colts cronyism.

Bob -- I mentioned this on a previous page or maybe another thread. But regarding your thought that the Colts will pay the $28M and go from there, wouldn't that be a total cap-killer for a year or even two if they get rid of him? I think all that prorated bonus would accelerate into the year they cut him, so they would have an impossibly high percentage of their cap as dead money and would have to look at cutting just about every high-salaried player they had to make up the difference.

Yes, it would be a cap-killer. Actually, what I suspect will happen is that Irsay and Manning are talking about how Manning can get his money WITHOUT killing the cap. That would require a restructuring -- or, if the Rob Lowe retirement rumors are to be believed -- a retirement, the contract being ripped up, and Manning getting a $28 million retirement gift that isn't counted against the cap because Manning won't be a player anymore.

I think the Broncos did something like that with Elway and there were some raised eyebrows about whether they violated the cap on that.

    Colts talking to Jim Tressel.

Cant wait to see Peyton Manning's reaction in the first meeting when he's told that he will hand it off 100 times a game and that the new offensive philosophy will be "any drive that ends in a kick is a success"

Tressel is already on the Colts payroll as a "replay consultant." Perhaps he should consult Jim Irsay to throw the challenge flag on interviewing him.

Apparently Brad Childress is on the interview list as well.

Oh boy, pleasepleasepleaseplease let the Colts hire Tressel.

Brad Childress is a worse candidate than Mike Sherman.

If this clown gets another head coaching job in the NFL, Zagoshe is right on trash being constantly recycled.

You know what the spin always is when a coach gets recycled, don't you? "Well, Bill Belichick sucked in Cleveland."

Yes, but Belichick had a very good reputation as a football mind even then, and everything went to hell so quickly in Cleveland. At this point I don't know what we can conclude from his Cleveland years.

Belichick has actually implied very strongly that when he went to Cleveland, he didn't know anything but x's and o's, so he tried to imitate Parcells in motivation, media relations, etc. Naturally that failed, but the point is he learned from failure. Most coaches, like most people in all walks of life, don't.

Chip Kelly is closing in on deal to be the Bucs' new head coach, according to TV station KGW in Oregon.
