Gee, Tom Brady helped him learn very quickly from failure. I read he was dismissed rather bloodlessly in Cleveland -- fired by phone. He had his son on the sidelines for the final game at Cleveland Municipal Stadium and the Browns season finale.

So what college will Kelly be coaching at in 2014?

I love having Chip Kelly at Oregon, and think he's a hell of a coach... but I'm not at all sure that what he does would work in the NFL.

If the Kelly rumor is true, I'll be very curious who will get the Oregon job.

Before Chip Kelly was in the picture, I always assumed Chris Petersen would eventually replace Mike Bellotti. I assume he'd get a call.

If they fill it from within it's probably going to be Mark Helfrich, the OC. I have no idea how much he contributed to the offense, so I have no sense of what kind of move that would be.

The longshot candidate would be Tony Dungy, whose son is on the team.

This late in the recruiting game it wouldn't surprise me if Oregon hired Mike Bellotti.

    It does make you wonder.

I'll say this, though -- if there are indeed sanctions coming, the NCAA would have to have a hell of a lot that's been completely hidden publicly, because the allegation that is public is pretty minor, and also implicated LSU and Cal.

Kelly canceled a recruiting trip to Sacramento. I suspect he's gone.

Would be fine with me, but I suspect Bellotti has no particular interest in returning.

By the way, add Gary Patterson to the list of front-runners. I'm guessing he's the second call, after Petersen.

LSU and Cal each had valid recruiting information, and could produce the videos, they paid Lyles to provide. They also paid him only $5 k (I believe).

UO could produce noting that Lyles allegedly provided for a $25K payment, other than some year-old stuff sent after the word came out that Lyles had received $25 K. Lyles was also the quasi-agent for several players who signed with UO.

There are also records of hundreds of texts between the Up coaching staff and Lyles, which is strictly prohibited by NCAA rules governing schools and the recruiting services they hire.

Even Bellotti expects there will be sanctions.
