His name came up as a NFL candidate when he was at Stanford.

Coughlin was not mediocre at BC.

Walsh had Stanford in back-to-back bowls (unheard of at the time) before he got the Niners job.

From 1979 to 1989 from when Walsh quit to when Green took over, Stanford went to one bowl game. Green took over a horseshit team and had them in a bowl during his third season.

An amazing number from Stat Sheet that explains why the Colts need both Chuck Pagano AND Andrew Luck (presuming Manning doesn't come back from the near-dead).

The Colts led the NFL in 2011 with 1,111 tackles. No other team even reached 1,000. (Pats, at 987, were second). That speaks volumes about how Indy's offense couldn't stay on the field, and the Colts defense couldn't get off it.

That is an incredible stat. Love to know what the high mark is, at least since the stat went official in 2001.

    John McKay -- success?
    John Robinson -- mild success
    Rich Brooks -- fail

Also that list doesn't include Coughlin although he has been discussed and was obviously successful.

Meh. He had some respectable years with the Colts in the late 80s.

He'd do crazy shit, too, like running the wishbone in certain situations in 1988 with Ricky Turner at QB. The Colts would put Turner, Eric Dickerson, Albert Bentley and George Wonsley all in the backfield and run it in short-yardage situations. Turner scored 2 TDs.
