Maybe Schiano works or doesn't, but Rutgers was nothing before he got there. They were a joke and now they are a competitive program. He either did that by selling something that didn't exist at the time (a winning program) or took the same dregs that the school typically got and coached them up. I do agree with the point that his success has coincided with a decline in the Big East.

And Manning? It all depends on his health. 80% percent Manning at his age is probably okay, less than that though? Redskins are about the only team I could think of who would be desperate enough. Does he want to take some of Eli's spotlight in NY with the Jets? Does he trust the Seahawks line? Tarvaris Jackson was sacked 42 times this season. Dolphins? I think they'll go for Flynn.

Still waiting on that SB prediction, chief.
    I'll expect it by morning.

I'd be a lot more excited about the job Schiano has done at Rutgers if it were a rebuilding project over three or four years - it has been 12 and they went from bad to mediocre. That's not exactly something to write home about.

It has not been that long - and he is a very good coach.

    I'm sorry - 11 years.

Which is still about seven more than it should take to get from awful to mediocre.

And he is not a great game coach - by any measure. He is an excellent motivator and his teams play hard and he is a good defensive coach but his offenses have been a disaster and all of that motivational stuff may work in college, it doesn't with grown men.

Being blunt = An excuse for hiring someone else

And throughout all these coaching hires, I have not heard a mention of "The Rooney Rule." Hmm.

I think its because teams/GMs aren't investing that much in their hires that they target one guy and only one guy for the spot. Interesting note: Of the last five coaches canned during the season - four ware replaced on an interim basis by a black assistant (all of whom, presumably, were at least allowed to interview for the full-time gig). Crennell and Frazier were retained.

Fun trivia: Two current head coaches have immediately followed the same guy. Okay, you got that one? Name the other pair that both immediately followed the same guy.

A good point. Maybe some of the black coaches refuse to be part of a clown show.
