Because as bad as it looks to hit two balls in the water from the tee, it would be doubly embarrassing to have the second splash come from 85 or 90 yards.

Just musing here, but once Garcia'd put one in, his only hope to win was to make a 4. Perhaps he felt, at that point, that he HAD to shoot at the flag and that hitting from the tee gave him a better chance of a 4 than hitting from the drop area. A full wedge off a tee is probably an easier shot, to those guys, than a half-wedge off the turf. Alternatively (and I think this is more likely) he simply lost his bearings for a moment and wasn't thinking straight.

No truth to the rumor that his caddy was named Romeo.

A lot of Players don't like the drop zone when the green is firm. Fred Couples once hit into the water, re-teed and dunked in the hole for a 3.

Sez you. Four victories in seven starts this year. Seven victories in his last 18 starts. That's a career for most guys. He's back.

Sure the equipment is different today, but comparing eras likewise requires a comparison of physiques. You telling me Hunter Mahan doesn't beat Billy Casper, even with persimmon and balata?

As much of a TW fan as I am and as much as I respect victories on the PGA Tour; no majors since '08, for Tiger, and Tiger only, is empty. (Now give a Players or WGC title to anyone else? That's a great year.)

Yeah. But the equipment is the same for everyone. Everyone hits the ball further now.

I just contend that there are more players capable of winning on any given week than at any time in the past. Look at the results this year on Tour. D.A. Points wins. Martin Laird wins. Billy Horschel wins. David Lingmerth finishes tied for second at The Players, while Hall of Famers Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els miss the cut.

On any given week, it's darn near impossible to predict who will win and who will stink.... unless Tiger's in the field.

Given the way he has been putting, I suspect another major win could be coming soon. I would guess maybe the PGA at Oak Hill might be the best chance this year, but I wouldn't bet against him anywhere.
