I don't know if that's much of a step up.

I would be surprised if Indiana made another coaching change in a major sport so soon after switching football coaches. But I have thought this before with other schools that went ahead and made the move.

They only had to pay a tick over a half-million to buy out Kevin Wilson. If they want to chuck Crean, the money's there.

Let's be honest here. Brad Stevens is the answer.

I wouldn't leave the Celtics for Indiana right now, even if it means having to watch Marcus Smart flop around like a dying fish every day.

In general, coaches go back to college from the pros only if they're failing in the pros, and Stevens is very far from failing.

He may survive by means of injury excuse. They lost both of their projected starting forwards at the season's start--Hartman and Anunoby--to season-ending knee injuries. And have had other starters like Blackmon and Morgan miss a bunch of games as well. Safe to assume their season would've gone quite differently if not decimated by injuries.

Nonetheless, it just feels like it's time for the Crean era to end.

They were also relatively healthy for a couple of their bad, tournament resume killing losses. I don't know what I'd do if I was the IU AD.

For Indiana, Stevens, Mark Few. Maybe Alford, although i don't know if he's really such a magic name anymore. The parents of today's high schoolers are 10 years younger than Alford.

It'll be interesting to see what happens at Michigan State when Izzo goes, as he soon will (he's 61). His coaching tree has completely dried up and died -- there are no credible heir apparents. Without some kind of legacy/ family tree relationship, Sparty isn't a magic name to anybody. If they're just hiring somebody on the open market, they're Nebraska or Iowa State or Oregon State.

Michigan will be looking for a coach soon enough as well. Beilein ain't burning up the world and he's no spring chicken.

That's a place where a Billy Donovan might make sense. Odds are pretty good he could get whacked at some point in OKC and he probably wouldn't be swimming in billion dollar NBA offers. Moving back to the college game might make sense.

I don't know, Gonzaga is only 26-0 with mostly shitty wins so Few is probably just an overrated lout.

I'd guess Few would only consider an offer from a real top-10 blueblood program. A midrange B1G or SEC job wouldn't get it.

But he'd be nuts not to listen if IU called. Michigan, I dunno. They've been pretty much off the map for 20 years.
