Boeheim's a dick. But it's hard for me to feel very sorry for the ACC, which had a great league and then began ruining it by inviting BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville and ND, and by losing Maryland. At least add-ons Tech, Miami and Florida State are in the geographic footprint. Those other schools will always be affiliate members, IMHO.

I hate Boeheim but he's right. Duke doesn't schedule a game in New York or at the Prudential Center annually because they like seeing the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. The Fat 10's not changing the date of its tournament by a week so that it can be moved to Madison Square Garden because Tom Izzo really wants to see Cats. There's recruits to be had in New York and New Jersey, and those recruits have access to your program when you play in NYC. They don't have dick in Greensboro aside from easy access to a Bojangles. It's the same damn logic behind Harbaugh wanting to have satellite camps in the south.

The ACC needed Syracuse this week. Deep down, we know they’d let everyone down and then whine about it afterward.

Are the conference tournaments really a big recruiting thing? I never hear much about it being a big deal for recruits. I really thought the point for the major conferences was an opportunity to make money while fans get mini-vacations and day drinking.

If NYC was the be-all, end-all of college basketball, at least one of St. John's, Rutgers or Seton Hall would be a perennial Sweet 16 team. And how many recruits are ditching high school to go down to the Barclays Center and hustle up tickets? (The schools can't comp their admission to neutral site games.)

Alumni able to stand the gaff of ticket prices who live in the NYC area are very good fundraising targets, I'm thinking.

Even if you are a poor college student in Pittsburgh or Tallahassee, it is economically possible to load three buddies in the car to road trip to Greensboro, park within walking distance of the arena, find some tickets outside, eat too much fast food and split an affordable hotel room. Lots of luck pulling that off in Prospect Heights.

The Inner Harbor in Baltimore would be a fun place for a big conference tournament. If only the city had an arena your typical JUCO or Indiana high school wouldn't be embarrassed to play in.

Pittsburgh and Louisville would be better ACC sites than Brooklyn. Plenty of recreation (bars, not so expensive restaurants) and costs way less. Also, a home team to sell tickets.
PS: Just remembered. Why not Atlanta?

Greensboro isn't even one of the top five cities in North Carolina.

ACC has two Florida schools. Why not Orlando? Good arena, plenty to do, and if there's one thing college kids know how to do, it's how to get to, stay, and get back from Florida in March on a shoestring.
